PS5 release date and how it was revealed
The game was first shown to the public during Sony's State of Play on February 12, 2026. Konami's PlayStation Blog post that day introduced Paris in 1499, Trevor Belmont's successor and the holy whip Vampire Killer. It promised a 2026 release on PS5 alongside the other platforms.
Konami later confirmed October 15, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and the Switch version was eventually moved to the same day. Steam displays October 14 for PC, which is a separate storefront detail covered on our release date page. For PlayStation, the date on the store page is October 15.
Pre-orders opened with the June release-date trailer shown at the Xbox Games Showcase. Pre-ordering either edition adds the Alucard-style costume for Rose. If you pre-ordered on the PlayStation Store, the game should download automatically to a console with automatic downloads enabled, so you can play as soon as it unlocks in your region.
PlayStation Store price and editions
The Standard Edition lists at $29.99 and the Midnight Edition at $39.99 in the United States, matching Steam and the Xbox Store. Spanish coverage confirms €29.99 for the Standard Edition on the PlayStation Store in Europe. Regional stores can differ, so check the price shown in your own account before buying.
| Edition | US price | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $29.99 | The full game |
| Midnight | $39.99 | Digital Sound & Art Gallery, Trevor-style and Sypha-style costumes, Family's Grace Relic |
| Pre-order bonus | Included with either edition | Alucard-style costume for Rose |
The Midnight extras are cosmetic and collectible, apart from the Family's Grace Relic, and none of them changes the campaign. The Alucard-style costume is a pre-order bonus rather than part of Midnight itself. Our editions guide and price guide go through the value question in more detail.
Physical PS5 copies
Konami announced a physical Midnight Edition alongside the digital editions, and physical preorders were confirmed in the demo announcement. Retailers in several regions list PS5 discs, often at a slightly higher price than the digital Standard Edition. SteelBook and tarot-card extras depend on the participating retailer, not on the disc itself.
Before ordering a disc, check that the listing names the edition and any bonus item explicitly. A physical copy can be resold or lent, which is the main advantage over the digital version at a similar price. The physical Midnight page and SteelBook page cover those retailer offers.
PS5 performance: the 60fps target
Konami's product information lists a 60fps target for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The original Nintendo Switch is the only platform listed at 30fps. That makes PS5 one of the smoothest ways to play, which matters in a game built around whip swings and parry timing.
No official source retained here confirms a dedicated PS5 Pro mode or a specific 4K resolution. Treat any such claim as unverified until Konami or a technical analysis confirms it. The PS5 demo is the easiest way to check how the game looks and feels on your own television.
Frame rate is more than a cosmetic detail here. Reviewers repeatedly describe enemies that adjust their aim to your jumps and dodges, and the parry rewards precise timing. A stable 60fps target gives PS5 players the most responsive version of those systems on console, alongside Xbox Series X|S.
PS5 trophy list overview
The trophy list has 30 trophies, including a Platinum for earning all of the others. PowerPyx's guide lists three ending trophies: a bad ending, a normal ending and a true ending. That means a Platinum requires seeing every outcome, not just finishing the story once.
- Belmont's fall: finish the game and get the bad ending.
- The hunt goes on: finish the game and get the normal ending.
- Curse lifted: finish the game and get the true ending.
- Dialog Skipper: finish the game in less than four hours.
- Perfectionist Hunter: reach 100% game completion.
The guide reports no trophies tied to a difficulty setting. The collectible trophies cover bosses, blessings, weapons, health and mana upgrades, clues and Mirrors of Life. Our achievements page and 100% guide track those categories.
Plan the Platinum around at least two runs. Reviewers needed about 16 hours to reach 92% to 100% completion, so the under-four-hour trophy is best attempted on a later run, once you know the route and can skip dialogue. Save the bad and normal endings for that faster run if the requirements allow it, and keep the true ending for your thorough playthrough.
What PS5 reviews concluded
The PS5 version has the largest share of reviews and stood at 86 on Metacritic on October 13. Shacknews, PlayStation Universe, Hey Poor Player and Saudi Gamer gave perfect scores on the PS5 listing. IGN and GamesRadar+ landed at 8 out of 10, praising the combat and movement while noting a few rough edges.
The complaints are about design rather than PS5 performance: save-room spacing, respawn placement after traps and an uneven difficulty curve. None of the retained reviews reports PS5-specific crashes or frame-rate problems. The full breakdown is on our reviews page.

The PS5 demo and save transfer
A free demo launched on October 1, 2026 on every platform, including PS5. It covers the opening areas and the first boss, The Fallen. Progress carries over to the full game when you use the same platform and account.
Keep the demo save and update the full game before you start it, as Konami's transfer rules require. A PS5 demo save will not move to the Steam or Switch version. The demo save transfer guide has the full checklist.
The demo is also the best way to judge the difficulty before paying. Several reviewers found the opening harder than the endgame, so if the first boss feels fair to you, the rest of the game is unlikely to be a wall. Players who bounce off the opening should read our beginner guide before giving up on it.
Should you buy it on PS5?
PS5 is a safe choice if it is your main console: it gets the 60fps target, the full trophy list and the same launch date as other platforms. Xbox Series X|S has a slightly higher Metacritic page score, but the difference is a couple of points. The gameplay and content are the same across versions.
PC players may find discounted Steam keys, and the Steam page lists the hardware requirements. Switch players trade some resolution and frame rate for portability, as covered on our Switch page. If you already own a PS5, the decision mainly comes down to Standard versus Midnight.
Choose Standard if you only want the game, because the campaign is identical in both editions. Midnight is worth the extra ten dollars mainly for the soundtrack and art gallery, plus the two classic-style costumes. The Family's Grace Relic is the only Midnight item that touches gameplay, and Konami has not described it as essential.
